Ethan is 2 months old! Tuesday, Sep 30 2008

September 30, 2008 - Im so happy to be TWO months old!

September 30, 2008 - I'm so happy to be TWO months old!

Yup, time really is flying.  In the midst of buying our house and getting ready for our move, our little man has reached two months old.  The past week his occasional smiles have become regular ones.  He flashes many of them a day at whoever is making funny faces or noises at him.  In fact, Grandma Carly even caught him on camera this morning.  He was all dressed up in a polo shirt and khaki shorts (just like dad!) and seemed to be enjoying his photo shoot.

Look who is smiling!

At his appointment last week he was 10 lbs 5 oz, so he’s gained 4 lbs since birth.   We have been getting out and about a lot more as well.  During the past 2 weeks we spent some time with cousin Will and Aunt Becca, went to Piedmont Park with Alix and saw his first bocce game, and took his first overnight trip to Suches to visit Nonno Gian and Mimi Carmen.  Ethan’s milking his last few weeks in Atlanta!

We finally have a move date…. Monday, Sep 29 2008

We finally set a date for our move.  It was just time to do it, though I honestly feel a bit sick to my stomach about it.  But anyway, the movers arrive to pack our stuff October 22.  We’ll make our final grand appearance at Tech homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 25 and then we’ll be on the road the next day.  So so sad.

We hope to spend as much time as possible with everyone before we move!

This was too cute to keep to myself…. Friday, Sep 19 2008

OK, call me the delusional parent who is in love with my kid if you want to, but this is by far the cutest video I have ever taken of Ethan.  He smiles, he stretches, he can’t stay awake…….he is such a Rossi (anyone who knows James knows that one thing is he REALLY good at is sleeping….)

Alright, enjoy….

Ethan’s first smile – caught on camera Tuesday, Sep 16 2008

I’m a little late in posting this but I finally edited the video down to the good part and got it uploaded to Youtube – so, I present……ETHAN’S FIRST SMILE.

Pretty cute, huh? Yeah, we think so too.  He still isn’t smiling regularly yet but we get a few here and there and they just make my day!

Anyway, I also had a chance to upload some more videos to youtube last night: Ethan right after he was born, Ethan with the hiccups, waking up, being fed, stuff like that that I find endlessly fascinating.  Don’t worry, I won’t be offended if you aren’t as intrigued by all the adorable things my son does, but if you feel like checking it out here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=rowanthefrog1.

Today we become homeowners….again Tuesday, Sep 16 2008

It feels like forever but today we close on our new home in New Jersey.  There is no backing out of it now, we are definitely moving :( .  I’m actually really excited though, our new house is really cute.

Its finally ours!

It's finally ours!

James is up there doing the walkthrough and meeting with contractors to get bids on the master bath installation which will hopefully start sometime next week at the latest.  So things are moving forward which is exciting and a relief to both of us.  Don’t get me wrong, living in the “basement suite” of my parents house since April has been a blessing in more ways than one, but we are looking forward to having our own place again.

Rest in peace Granddad Monday, Sep 15 2008

Granddad meets his great grandson

Granddad meets his great grandson

On Wednesday, September 10 James’ beloved Granddad passed away in the hospital.  While his health had been failing for several months, he worked up until the Thursday before he passed away which is exactly what he wanted.  He is now with his wife, Jo, in heaven, but dearly missed by his family.

Growing up I never actually knew either of my grandfathers, since they both passed away long before I was born.  Granddad was the first grandfather I ever knew.  He welcomed me with open arms and always gave me huge hugs.  He made me laugh, he told stories.  He is what I always imagined having a granddad would be like.  I am so thankful that he was part of my life for the past 8 years.

James and the rest of his family have all been very sad, but we all take comfort in knowing that Granddad lived a full life and left on his own terms.  James and I are both thankful that Granddad did get to meet his great grandson.

So -  here’s to Granddad -  thank you for being such an inspiration to all of us- keep laughing in heaven.

OMG – we are moving in 6 weeks Sunday, Sep 7 2008

So last week I was meeting with a financial planner and explaining our situation to them: the baby, the new job, the move, etc etc.  And they asked when we were moving.  I gave my standard answer, “mid to late October,” which is what I have been saying all along – since December when we first heard about this whole thing.  And he (the financial planner guy) said, “oh, in 6 weeks?”  GULP.  It that seriously 6 weeks from now???  That snuck up on us.  Granted, we have had just one or two other things on our minds, but 6 weeks?  EEK.

We close on our house a week from tomorrow (Sept 15).  Prior to moving in we are going to install a master bathroom and walk-in closet upstairs next to our bedroom, but we have to hire a contractor and can’t get bids until we close on our house.  So we are hoping construction will start the week of 9/22 and we’ll move up when its done.  We’re hoping it won’t take much longer than 3 weeks, but we’ll see.

This 6 week realization has been quite the shock though – realizing that even after we’ve been talking about this for months it is actually HAPPENING.  We are leaving…..we are moving away.  We are leaving behind our families and all our friends and moving up to the cold North just in time for winter and we don’t know anyone up there.  (OK we know a few people, but bear with me as I throw a mini pity party, ok?? Thanks.)  Ever since this has come up I have tried to be excited and happy and positive about the whole thing.  And I am excited about it in some ways.  But now that it is becoming imminent I am getting more and more sad about moving away.  I just can’t believe we are actually doing it.

But – it is what it is and its not going to change.  Its a great opportunity for James and it allows me to stay home with Ethan.  We bought an adorable house and I can’t wait to move in and set up in a real house!  And so I continue to try to look on the bright side and block out just how much I am going to miss each and every one of you- our dear family and friends who may be reading this blog.  Because we will.  Each of you are so very important to James, Ethan and I and it truly breaks my heart to leave.  If I seem blase about it in person its because I’m trying not to let the floodgates open, because if I do, they may not stop.

Alright…enough of that.  I still haven’t gotten my hard drive fixed, but I’m going to try to find some alternate ways to upload some new pics and some GREAT videos of Ethan this week for you guys! Enough of this sadness stuff.

4 weeks old!! Monday, Sep 1 2008

4 weeks old

4 weeks old

OK, OK, so whenever you talk to ANYONE about being a parent or when I was pregnant, everyone and their mother told me “enjoy it, it goes so fast.”  Yeah, yeah, ok, I hear ya.

Well, now that I’m on the other side and I’m actually a mom I have to say you were all right.  I can’t believe its already been a month.  AND – I am in shock by how much he has changed in just 4 short weeks.  He is so much bigger.  His skin has gone from the red newborn skin to this translucent white.  He watches us and holds our gaze.  His face has changed somehow – I can’t quite put my finger on it, but last night I was watching some of the videos from his first week and he looks so different!  We have gotten a few tiny smiles that were probably gas, but let me tell you, they light up your world!  He is starting to be more alert more often each day.  I try to make the most of that time – its usually only about 20-30 minutes at a time, but I sing songs and make silly faces and break out all the toys to try to get him to smile or coo.  James has taken some silly videos of me trying to entertain him.  I look like an idiot I’m sure, but I don’t care, its fun :)   Anyway, here are a few more of the professional pics we had taken recently.  I’m behind on pics right now because the hard drive crashed on our laptop so I am using James’ computer, but I’ll post some from labor day and some others soon!
