Happy Birthday Ethan!! Thursday, Jul 30 2009

Wow….it truly doesn’t seem real.   I truly can’t believe it….my tiny, sweet little baby is…well, almost not a baby anymore.  I have a one year old.  On one hand he seems so big and grown-up, on the other hand he is STILL my little baby.  I just can’t believe it has gone by so fast.

This month has been an exciting one.  He got his 6th tooth.  He is really starting to understand so many words now, words that I’m not even teaching him!!  He gives kisses on command, he is so so playful.  He has figured out that he can “direct” us to bring him where he wants to go by pushing on the back of our necks while pointing at whatever it is that he wants to see.  He also likes to make us kiss things: flowers, this chameleon thing we have in our living room, EACH OTHER!  For some reason he loves it when James and I kiss, and then kiss him.  I *think* we might have kissed him too much, if that is possible.  He’s very into kissing :)  But its cute.  He is definitely becoming Mr. Big Personality these days – he knows exactly what he wants, he knows that we can help him, and if we don’t…well, release the fury.  He crawls all over the place, bringing us books to read, playing with all of his toys, snuggling with the cats and with his stuffed animals.  He is very friendly towards everyone – he charms everyone at the grocery store whenever we go, flashing big huge smiles and reaching out to hug everyone.  He is really a HUGE snuggle bug.  Gosh, what more can I say?  He’s just such a joy.  My sweet little boy.

If you are reading this and you have a younger baby, give them a big tight hug and kiss, it IS true, they grow so fast.

Today we have Ethan’s birthday playdate with my mom’s group and Saturday is his NJ birthday party.  I’ll post some pics and videos from those tonight and later this weekend, but in the meantime enjoy a flashback: here is my blog post from when he was born.  To see all the pics from his 12th month, click here.

Happy Birthday Ethan!

Sneak peek – One year professional shots Tuesday, Jul 28 2009

Just to give you a quick tease, here are a few of the professional pics that Vanessa from Vivi Photography took of Ethan on Sunday.  She did four photo shoots in one day! These are Ethan’s one year shots, some family portraits, Father’s Day shots and “day in the life of Ethan” pics.  She was so professional, made us feel so at ease and really captured some great family moments.  Her website is Vivi Photography.

Thinking of Nonno Sandro…. Sunday, Jul 19 2009

This week we got the worrisome news that James’ Nonno Sandro (Nonno is Italian for Grandfather) had been diagnosed with bladder cancer and was checked into the hospital to run tests and undergo surgery to hopefully remove the cancer.  So much is up in the air, but we have been thinking of him, his beloved wife, Nonna Maria and all of James’ family during this very difficult time.  Please send all your good thoughts to Nonno Sandro for a speedy and easy resolution and recovery.  We love you Nonno Sandro, please get well soon!!

Love,

James, Ethan and Amy

My child is the biggest snuggle buggle ever Saturday, Jul 18 2009

I admit, we made him what he is….but MAN he loves being tickled, snuggled, hugged, kisses, the works.  He has no concept of personal space.  One thing he especially loves is playing with cars…especially when we roll cars all over his body.  Since we do that, when he is playing alone we see him rolling his cars on his body too!!  Its so cute, and obviously shows that he is learning what to do from us.

Yeah, this is pretty much my day right now Saturday, Jul 18 2009

Desperately trying to communicate with my not-quite-1-year-old and being blatantly ignored due to the presence of both a truck and a football.  Oh wait…that’s marriage too right??? (I kid, I kid…ok about trucks anyway.)

Walking progress Saturday, Jul 18 2009

I’ll be honest, I’m not entirely sure I want Ethan to walk.  I mean, eventually yes….but as it is he is so fast crawling and he already gets into stuff.  I can barely fathom when he can actually RUN from me, which, by watching my friends whose babies are about 4-5 months older, I know he will.  AACK.  Alas, here I am, trying to teach him to walk…and he’s getting there.  Maybe by his first birthday which is in LESS THAN 2 WEEKS!!

It’s a birthday party!! Tuesday, Jul 14 2009

Not Ethan’s….yet, that takes place in a couple of weeks.  But Leila, one of his friends from our playgroup turned 1 and so we went to celebrate her birthday.  We had a gorgeous day and went to Johnson Park, which isn’t too far from us in Piscataway, right next to Rutgers.  It was a fun party – lots of kids!  Ethan wore his adorable frog seersucker outfit (thanks Granny Gay!) and had fun playing with balls and eating goldfish.  We got a rare family photo, since its always one of us behind the camera.

A day at the pool Tuesday, Jul 14 2009

Over 4th of July weekend we went to a friend’s house and had a BBQ and took a swim in their pool.  He had fun playing with his friends Ryan and Harrison, and we enjoyed spending time with new friends.

Ethan had fun, but I think was a little tired, he didn’t want to play too long.  But, he was cute, as always.  Especially in his super cool sunblock hat.

Trying to eat with a spoon Tuesday, Jul 14 2009

So I was reading my “Your baby – The First Year” book and it said that Ethan should be able to feed himself with a spoon at this age.  Considering he JUST mastered feeding himself with his hands (and is not exactly neat at that) I was dubious.  But, the book says so, so I figured why not? Let’s give it a try.  So I handed Ethan a spoon and let him try to feed himself some yogurt.  Here are the results:

When he was done I spent 10 minutes cleaning yogurt off the floor.  I might wait a few weeks before trying that again.

Such a southern gentleman Tuesday, Jul 14 2009

We may be raising him up North (for now anyway) but as you can see he still has his Southern charm.
