Oh yeah, he’s REALLY a walker now Wednesday, Sep 30 2009

I realize that somehow I forgot to tell Ethan’s online fan club that Ethan is really, truly, OFFICIALLY a walker.  When I posted that walking video it was when he was finally balancing and getting the hang of it, but he wasn’t walking as his primary mode of transportation.  Well, he is now and has been doing it for about 2 weeks.  It is SO cute to watch him walking around.  He looks so tiny, its weird, it seems to defy the laws of gravity for something that little to be able to walk, but, he does.  I enjoy taking him to random places and plopping him down and letting him roam around.  Inevitably he beelines for something with wheels that he shouldn’t push but its fun anyway.  Here are a few pics of him walking around the Home Depot nursery, and a short unedited video clip of him standing up on his own, collecting acorns and walking around.  My big boy!!

See what I mean about things with wheels?

Ethan and Hannah Claire reunite again Wednesday, Sep 30 2009

My friend Amy and her daughter, Hannah Claire, were also in town for a wedding during our trip.  We were able to get together for the shortest playdate ever (Amy rushed over, we hung out for maybe 30 minutes and then Ethan was tired and wanted to nap…oh well, these things happen.)  But, it was so wonderful to see Amy and see how Hannah Claire is growing up.  The first pic is the one from that playdate, and just for fun I posted some pics from the past of the two of them.

Something so tragic that has really hit home for me Tuesday, Sep 29 2009

As many of you know, I am a member of a few online communities that have provided me with loads of support, advice, information, friendship and so much more over the years.  These communities have thousands of moms or moms-to-be all sharing in a common bond.  On Sunday, one of the boards experienced a tragic loss.  One of their members, Jewelyn, went into labor, ended up heading in for an emergency C-section, and then, due to a rare amniotic embolism, died in childbirth, hours after giving birth to her first child, a little girl named Gabrielle, who is doing well and will be released from the NICU this week.

I do not know Jewelyn, but her story haunts me, as a woman who has had a child and hopes to have more, who has friends who have children, are pregnant, trying to get pregnant and so on.  She was simply pursuing a dream that I, and many women the world over pursue, and she lost her life because of it.  Maternal death is incredibly rare these days thanks to modern medicine.  But it still occurs and its terrifying.  Her husband, Philip, has now been left without his wife to raise his baby girl on his own.  Her daughter will never know her mother and Jewelyn was cheated out of knowing her daughter and the joy that comes with being a mother.  It is horrifying and tragically unfair.

My online community is banding together to provide whatever assistance we can, and I am asking your help.  A PO Box has been set up to receive formula checks and diaper coupons. Any and all brands will be accepted, and whatever Philip doesn’t use will be donated to the Liz Logelin Foundation.

Formula checks and diaper coupons can be sent to:

Jewelyn Okamoto Memorial Fund
PO Box 235971
Encinitas, CA 92023-5971

For those who want to send packages (larger than an envelope), the address for that is:

Brandi Futrell
c/o Jewelyn Okamoto Memorial Fund
14928 S. Maple Ave.
Gardena, CA 90248

A paypal account has been created and cash donations can be sent to 4jewelyn@gmail.com

This is not a hoax.  This is very real and occurred on Sunday.  If you have anything to give, please send them to the addresses listed above.  To see a picture of Jewelyn, you can click here

Ethan’s first year video – The Online Debut Sunday, Sep 27 2009

At long last, I am able to debut Ethan’s first year video online.  After showing it at his New Jersey and Atlanta birthday parties I am ready to release it to his online fan club :)

I will advise you, you might need a little bit of time to view the whole thing, and (forgive me, I was learning) I spent a little too much time on the newborn phase, but keep watching, it gets pretty funny if I may say so myself.

This particular website allows you to create a playlist and link one video to the next.  I hope you enjoy watching this as much as I enjoyed making it.

I would LOVE to hear any comments you have on this video as I poured so much of my heart and soul (and time) into it.

Here is Ethan’s First Year Video via a playlist.  If you have issues with this, please contact me through the comments section and I can send you another way to view this online.

Playtime in Atlanta Thursday, Sep 24 2009

Will came over to play one afternoon.  It was cute seeing them both walking all over the place and playing with Carlie and Papaneaux.  It was quite difficult to catch good pics with them moving around so fast, but here are a few from that day.

A “vacation” with mom and dad Thursday, Sep 24 2009

James, Ethan and I spent a nice weekend at my family’s lakehouse after Labor Day.  It must be said…there is no such thing as a vacation with a one year old…especially a sick one year old.  James’ and my idea of a vacation involves lots of sleeping, reading and generally doing a whole lot of nothing.  Whereas Ethan’s idea of a vacation involves exploring and getting into everything.  But, it was a nice quasi-relaxing week with just us, which we have actually never done before!  Here are a few pics.

Ethan “in” things Thursday, Sep 24 2009

Right now Ethan is very into being “in” things – in wagons, in cabinets, in small spaces.  If he can climb into it, you can bet he will.  Here are a few pics of Ethan enjoying being “in” things.

Ethan’s soccer training Monday, Sep 14 2009

Well it should come as no surprise that pretty much as soon as he could kick his feet, James started training Ethan to be the next soccer superstar.  Here is a clip from Ethan’s first year video showing Ethan’s soccer progression.
