Well, I can’t exactly say this was a surprise.  Actually it was the complete opposite – if you know me (Amy) at all you know I am a planner and let’s just say that we picked a date a couple of years into our marriage and decided we would start trying to get pregnant.  That day came, and we started trying.  At the time it felt like it took forever, but we were successfully pregnant within 5 months, so really it wasn’t a long time.

We found out the great news just before Christmas 2007.  James was out of town when I found out I was pregnant, so he came home to a very special stocking letting him know that he was getting an early Christmas present!  I have no idea how I kept the news to myself for 3 whole days, but it was worth it!

Here is how James found out I was pregnant!

I had a very easy 1st trimester – I barely got sick at all and soon the 2nd trimester arrived.  We had originally decided we weren’t going to find out the sex of the baby, but unfortunately I couldn’t stand it at all – so at 17 weeks we went in for our “big ultrasound” and found out that…….

Its a boy!

It's a boy!

In the meantime, Amy was growing and growing, if you want to see pics of my growing belly, click here.

So -what is his name you ask?  Well, we don’t know just yet.  James and I decided before we found out the sex that if it was a boy, he could have final pick of the name, and he doesn’t want to name him until he meets him.  So, we’ll all find out his name when he is born.  However, the middle name will be James and his first name will be either ELLIOTT, ETHAN or NATHANIEL.  To keep it simple, we have been calling him “EJ.”

We also got our first 3D look at our son and were amazed to see that even as early as 21 weeks he already looked JUST like his daddy!

2nd trimester passed with little fanfare – just growing bigger and bigger.  Something that has made this pregnancy particularly special was that my younger sister Becca is pregnant at the same time as me!! She is due 2 months before I am, but we have had a lot of fun sharing experiences and bumping bellies! My older sister had her beautiful daughter Claire last August, so my family will be expanding by 3 grandbabies in one year!  Exciting times.

3rd trimester – well, since I didn’t get sick during the 1st trimester I can say that this has been the hardest part of pregnancy for me. While I LOVE feeling his kicks and feeling him move around, I am just getting BIG and it certainly takes its physical toll.  I also learned that I had gestational diabetes, something that is very common and poses little risk to EJ (as long as I follow the doc’s orders, which I have been), but needless to say it was disappointing and meant I had to cut back on the ice cream, but that’s probably not a bad thing.

At 34 weeks we got the opportunity to see EJ once again, and got a great picture of his face!

I have to say, we were both a little surprised when we saw this picture, because his last 3D he really seemed to resemble James, but I really think he looks a bit more like me now!!

So – we are eagerly awaiting our son’s arrival in the upcoming weeks!
